Taking Things Personally Workshop

  • 7736 24th Avenue Northeast Seattle, WA, 98115 United States (map)

The phenomenon of taking things personally is pretty much universal: we all experience it. And, it’s involuntary! We don’t choose to take something personally—it just happens.

It's also one of the most common ways we undermine our happiness and sabotage the relationships we care about. Why? Because when we take something personally, we lose touch with reality. We overreact. We get defensive and close off. We lash out, or crumble. We get trapped in shame, fear and pain. We spiral.

How do we catch ourselves in the act of taking something personally, and pivot into a healthier response? How do we break the trance of reactivity, and do something intentional instead?

In this session you will learn:

  • Why we take things personally, how the cycle works, and why it’s so hard to stop
  • Useful mindsets and tools to set yourself up for a successful behavior shift
  • How to recognize when you have taken something personally and interrupt the cycle
  • Key steps to break the trance of reactivity, find the root cause of your pain and choose a more productive response
